The third annual Allied Bowling tournament was held Jan. 27 at Forest Hill Lanes.

Harford County’s Allied sports program is designed to provide high school students with significant physical limitations or handicapping conditions an opportunity to participate in high school sports. The Allied program is twofold; building peer relationships and improving athletic skills. During practices students learn each other’s strengths and limitations just as teammates in all levels of sports do. In all Allied sports the rules and equipment are modified to meet the unique needs of every student.

In bowling, ramps are used for students who physically have difficulty in lifting and releasing the ball. Lighter weight balls and bumpers are used for some students needing those supports to be successful. All the sports are designed to promote athletic achievement and encourage team spirit.

The rules are designed to provide equal opportunity for participation and to highlight all the students on the teams.

Jim Miller at Forest Hill lanes made accommodations for students with special needs.

Participating in the tournament were 127 athletes representing the following 11 Harford County Schools: Aberdeen, Bel Air, C. Milton Wright, Fallston, Havre de Grace, John Archer, Harford Tech, Future Link, Joppatowne, North Harford and Patterson Mill.
